Armor Roofing was founded in Michigan, but the story behind the company began in Huntsville, Alabama.

Founder Paul Kirkwood was born and raised in the South, where his parents met and where family roots still run deep. After serving in the United States Army and living throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan, Paul built a career in roofing, restoration, project management, and company leadership.

After more than two decades in the roofing industry, including executive leadership experience with one of Metro Detroit’s largest family-owned roofing companies, Paul founded Armor Roofing with a simple belief:

Homeowners deserve access to local decision makers, not boardrooms.

As private equity continues to acquire roofing companies across the country, Armor Roofing remains committed to doing things differently: personal accountability, professional systems, quality craftsmanship, and long-term trust.

A PERSONAL NEXT CHAPTER

Today, Armor Roofing is preparing for its next chapter: expansion to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

For Paul, this move is deeply personal. He is a widower, a father to three daughters, and someone whose life has been shaped by both hard work and family. His two adult daughters have built lives in Nashville, and as his youngest daughter continues to grow, the opportunity to return home to the South became the right next step.

The pull back South has always been there.

The Gulf Coast offers a kind of Southern charm that is hard to duplicate: warm weather, strong communities, coastal roads, family values, local businesses, good food, and a pace of life where relationships still matter. For Paul and Madelynn, the opportunity to leave long Michigan winters behind and build a future closer to their Southern roots feels like the right next chapter.

Armor Roofing is currently completing FORTIFIED Roofing Contractor certification and preparing to bring resilient roofing solutions to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Paul’s experience includes residential roofing, storm restoration, insurance restoration, project management, field operations, and company leadership. That background shaped the systems, standards, and customer-first approach behind Armor Roofing.

Armor Roofing’s experience is also supported by long-standing relationships with leading shingle manufacturers, and distribution partners. Those relationships help ensure access to proven materials, current installation standards, manufacturer training, and the technical support needed to build roofing systems the right way.

In his previous leadership roles, Paul attended continuing education classes, manufacturer training events, industry conferences, and professional development opportunities focused on best practices, installation standards, emerging trends, and operational improvement. These events provided the opportunity to collaborate with manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and industry professionals while staying current on changes affecting homeowners and the roofing industry.

Paul has also been interviewed by industry influencers for insight into the systems, processes, and customer experience standards he helped develop throughout his career. Armor Roofing believes that bringing a structured, process-driven contractor into the market adds value, consistency, and peace of mind homeowners can trust.

As Armor prepares for its Gulf Coast expansion, the mission remains the same:

I was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, and the South has always felt like home.

After years in roofing and restoration, and after building Armor Roofing in Michigan, I believe the Mississippi Gulf Coast is the right place for our next chapter. It offers the kind of community, opportunity, and Southern way of life that I want for my family and for the company we have built.

Away from roofing, I enjoy spending time with my daughter (even when she makes me get pedicures), riding my Harley, and exploring back roads, small towns, and local communities that make this region special. And of course watching college football.

Armor Roofing is preparing to return to the South with proven experience, a commitment to resilient roofing, and a desire to build something lasting in a region we are proud to call home.
